Screen printing, also known as silkscreen printing or serigraphy is most simply put, a stenciling process. In screen printing an image is transferred onto a fine mesh screen with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, then ink is forced into the mesh openings with a squeegee and onto the printing surface. Screen printing first appeared in China during the Song Dynasty (960–1279 AD). The silk mesh used during that time has now been replaced by synthetic materials. Screen printing is one of the most versatile and accessible of all printing processes, and can be used to print on just about anything.
Join us for our one day DIY Screen Printing Class. This workshop will provide an in depth understanding of the screen printing process. Students will make their own screen and learn everything they need to know to silkscreen within their own home/studio. During class, students will complete at least one silkscreen project and print on several types of materials including paper and fabric. Each student will receive a workbook filled with information and tips for continued printing after class!
--A minimum of 4 people must enroll in a session for the workshop to "make". If less than 4 enroll in a session, you will be contacted with the offer to choose a new session or receive a refund.
